This isn’t related to really anything else on this site, but I just hosted a party and found this really fun Saran Wrap party game. Basically, you make a ball out of many layers of Saran Wrap, putting underneath a layer every so often. As you make it, it seems like it will never work, but it somehow turns out really fun in the end.
The link above has a pretty good description of the rules, but here are some tips I’ve come up with:
- Start with something hard and boxy or round in the center.
- Wrap as tightly as you can. This is why the center prize needs to be something hard that will not bend.
- Cut the Saran Wrap every so often and start a new piece. This makes it more difficult.
- Along the same lines, try wrapping some tape in the mix.
- Use a lot of Saran Wrap. Error on the side of too much Saran Wrap, as if the prizes come out quickly the game will be over really fast. (With 19 gifts, I used three whole rolls and then some. This worked well.)
- Use as many prizes as a little less than double the number of people attending.
- Put the more valuable gifts in the center to keep the excitement up.
- Put some candy bars as the outer gifts to create the initial excitement (everyone loves candy!).
- Good prizes are things like candy bars, gift cards, money, lottery tickets, cheap party favors, packs of colored pens, gum, tic-tacs, etc.
- If you include a lottery ticket as an inner prize, include a quarter as an early prize and see if anyone gets it.
- In general, good prizes are flatish and not too big.
- Keep the ball in a cool place or the fridge before the party so that the candy inside doesn’t get melted and squishy.
- Some people are really bad at rolling dice. This unfortunately makes the game less fun, as the ball will stop being passed for a while. If you know who those people are (and are feeling nice), situate yourself to the trailing side of them so you can give them a little more time.
- Play the game in a room with a large open space where you can all sit on the floor.
