Working on a blog is hard work with little immediate payback, at least in the beginning. I sometimes find myself looking for something quantitative to show me that somebody out there is reading this. That’s why my site has that little statistics widget at the bottom, more for me than for any of you.
But overall, I try to avoid linkbait, social nonsense, SEO, and anything viral. I want this site to be a reflection of who I really am, and although having a lot of page views is gratifying, I really want to write the software and the articles that I wish existed in the world. So when I finally got around to watching this video from WordPress.tv, it was really cool that the speaker shared most of my views on blogging.
(Through the snazziness of WordPress embeds, you can view the video right here, unless you’re like me and have NoScript screaming at you right now.)
Normally I focus my time on the technical parts of building my website (hence the lack of useful content, I know, I’m working on it…), but I found this talk a reassuring view on how to create a healthy personal website.
