WordPress Automatically Redirects to Proper Page

(last updated

I just realized that the my email signature directed people to https://aidanmontare.net/about/contact/. Since the Contact page is a child of the About page (which has nothing on it by design), I expected that this would cause some 404 errors and a bit of confusion, since the real path should be https://aidanmontare.net/about/contact/. Luckily, it seems that WordPress automatically redirects just page names to their full paths without error.

While giving the full path in a link means slightly less server traffic, this is good for people who like to place links to a page on their website on things that don’t allow hyperlinks (i.e. business cards, text only email). To make the link easier to type, you can safely omit the parent slugs of a page and still direct people to the correct page.
